Video Display Changes

The videos are now arranged so that the identifying letter reads from the top of a column to the bottom rather than around on the same level. More titles beginning with the same letter can now be seen before turning the rack. The rack that was to the left of the front door has been removed. Titles that wouldn't fit into the remaining racks have been put on the putty colored book cart. /sara

Proper Pronunciation

In listening to an Inspector Alleyn audio book I learned that the Inspector's name is pronounced as "al LANE". By the way, this is a fun (he refers to his assistant, Fox as 'Brer Fox')mystery that would appeal to our cozy mystery readers. Ann

Ngaio Marsh

When Ann asked me how to pronounce Ngaio Marsh's first name I went to Google and got it right away. It's "nio" as in "bio". It turns out that Marsh isn't Chinua Achebe's ("chin WA a CHAY bay") countryman nor is she a 'he' as I thought. I went to the C/WMARS website and clicked on online resources then reference databases, then Galegroup databases, then entered my library card number, chose Powersearch then biography resource center and searched by name. Marsh is the author of 32 mystery novels which are recognized as some of the finest in the genre. She has been compared with Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayer and Margery Allingham. Tilton owns two of her books and we just borrowed an Inspector Alleyn 4 disc DVD series from the bookmobile which is what started this whole thing rolling. Ann can tell us about that, including how to pronounce Alleyn. Ann?

Halloween Update

Please forgive the mistake on the original October calendar. It said that Halloween was on Thursday and "if you come in costume you'll get a treat".
We all know now that Halloween is on a Weds. and that we're not open at night. I made a corrected version of the calendar that has been available to patrons. If there are any inquiries- we will have treats to give out during the day to children, with or without costume.
I'll give some treats to the adult circulation desk to have on hand.

NARA workshop

This year's Friends of WMRLS annual meeting was held at the National Archives and Records Administration in Pittsfied on Friday, October 19th. After the meeting, archivist Jean Nudd presented the program, 'Finding Your Immigrant Ancestors.' Handouts from the program are in the reference book area at the end of the 900s. They include questions to ask before contacting the NARA and a list of useful (and free!)genealogy websites. If patrons have a question and I'm not here, please take down their info and I will contact them. If after looking at the handouts, patrons would like to contact the NARA they may do so by calling Jean Nudd directly. Her business cards are there with the other information. /sara

We begin

How about this technology!
It seems like just yesterday I was mailing letters to communicate. Next we'll just be dictating and it will write it all down. At least that will help my penmanship.
